The Meck Family
Hi, we're the Meck family! Get it? Hammeck? HamMECK? Anyway... We're from Lancaster County, PA, and we specialize in hammocks and other related accessories. We make everything right here in the USA, and we source nearly all of our materials from domestic manufacturers. We take a lot of pride in our craftsmanship, and we're certain you will too! Please have a look around. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Also, if you live in or near Lancaster County, feel free to contact us about stopping by to see our hammocks in person.
Some History
In 2010, I (David) bought my first hammock, at the recommendation of a close friend. What a discovery! I decided then that I would not be returning to the ground, except in a casket. In 2012, I married my wife, Beth. We delayed our honeymoon until 2013, when we backpacked the West Rim Trail along the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. It didn't take much convincing to get her out of a tent and into a hammock. However, we weren't truly happy with our mass-produced-big-name hammocks.
We had already made some of our other gear, so we decided to take a run at making our own hammocks. I purchased everything I needed, and went to town, with some guidance from Beth. The result was the first ever Hammeck. It wasn't perfect, but it was far more comfortable than my previous hammock. I showed it off endlessly to friends and family.
That's when the rest of the family got involved, and the pieces started to come together. First came the company name, which we felt was a natural fit. Next came the logo, which I drew in Microsoft Paint, believe it or not. In 2013, we introduced the Breezy, complete with a suspension, but available in only two fabric options. As business grew, we expanded our options and tweaked processes. We have since added the Netty, Envy, and Envy-S, as well as several suspension options and many more fabric choices. Most recently, we began offering the Hanger Stand, a collapsible hammock stand. We are also offering the Hanger DIY Kit, the "slightly more assembly required" version of the stand.
Mom and I share a large amount of the sewing, although Beth frequently chips in when she's not otherwise occupied with her schoolwork. Dad and Jason fabricate the stands. We all enjoy the innovative process of developing our products. We are constantly thinking of new ideas and designs, and we make it a priority to continue improving our existing designs and manufacturing processes. We truly enjoy what we do!
I should mention that Dad, Jason, and I all hold full-time employment outside of this endeavor. Additionally, Beth is a full-time graduate student. Mom is the only full-time "employee" of Hammeck. We do the very best we can to turn every order around in a timely manner, but hopefully this helps provide some background about our lives away from hammock manufacturing. We appreciate your understanding!
